London, sale, Foster and Son, collection “from a Chateau in France,” May 9, 1849, lot 59: “Le Départ pour l’Isle.” It sold for £40.20.
REMARKS
Nothing is known beyond what was printed in the 1849 sale catalogue. We do not know if this picture the original Watteau painting sold a century earlier or, more likely, was a copy after Watteau’s painting, or a copy after Dupin’s engraving. Without further evidence, none of this can be decided.
